Messam to lead Chiefs

Chief's No.8 Liam Messam will take over as captain of the Super Rugby side from the injured Mils Muliaina for their clash with the Hurricanes in Wellington on Saturday night

After making multiple changes to his starting 15 over the past two weeks, Chief's coach Ian Foster has gone for stability after the 38-10 win over the Melbourne Rebels in Hamilton.

The only alteration has been forced by the injury to fullback Muliaina, who is replaced by exciting youngster Tim Nanai-Williams.

Muliaina received a blow to the back against the Rebels and is expected to be out for four weeks after a scan identified two fractures.

"It's been disappointing to lose Mils but we are happy with the overall condition of the squad," Foster said.

"We are confident in the leadership of the team with our core group going well."

Backrower Fritz Lee, who picked up a knee injury in his Super rugby debut in the round-one defeat to the Brumbies, makes his return on the bench.

Chiefs squad (15-1): Tim Nanai-Williams, Lelia Masaga, Dwayne Sweeney, Tana Umaga, Sitiveni Sivivatu, Stephen Donald, Brendon Leonard, Liam Messam (captain), Tanerau Latimer, Scott Waldrom, Isaac Ross, Craig Clarke, Nathan White, Aled de Malmanche, Ben May. Reserves: Hika Elliot, Sona Taumalolo, Romana Graham, Fritz Lee, Taniela Moa, Mike Delany, Jackson Willison.
