Manly's woes compounded by injured Lyon

Manly's disappointment at the NRL season-opening loss to Melbourne was compounded by a serious injury to their co-captain Jamie Lyon.

The classy centre walked off the field just before halftime in their 18-6 loss to the Storm at AAMI Park.

But coach Des Hasler revealed the former Test star will be "out for some time" with a hamstring tear.

He will undergo scans on Sunday.

The Sea Eagles also have other injury concerns with winger Will Hopoate suffering a shoulder injury and hooker Matt Ballin concussion.

To make their night even more miserable, co-captain Jason King was put on report in the 64th minute for lifting his knee as he was tackled by Storm skipper Cameron Smith.

"The points he can score ... he's a potential match-winner every time he tackles the ball," Hasler said of the loss of Lyon.

The coach lamented his side's high error rate, only able to complete eight of 15 sets in the second half, when Melbourne surged from a 6-6 halftime lead to take control of the match.
