Stanley to miss Storm's NRL season

Injury-prone Melbourne centre Chase Stanley has been crushed by news he requires a full knee reconstruction and will miss the rest of the NRL season.

The promising St George junior made just seven appearances in his first season for the Storm last year, and now another shadow has been cast over his career.

Scans on Tuesday revealed an ACL injury that required a full reconstruction.

The 21-year-old suffered the injury during the first half of Saturday night's 18-6 first round victory over Manly and was surprisingly able to play on, and excel, in the second 40 minutes.

However, MRI scans confirmed he'd done some serious damage and will now have to watch his team-mates battle it out from the sidelines.

Stanley, who made his debut as a schoolboy for St George Illawarra in 2007, is a massive loss for the Storm, however there is a silver lining with new recruit Beau Champion receiving the green light to take his place in the centres against the Gold Coast on Saturday night.

"The news isn't good, he's done a tear in his ACL so it's definitely a setback and a disappointment that we've lost a quality player like Chase," said assistant coach, David Kidwell.

"But another opportunity opens for Beau Champion, he gets his opportunity and me knowing Beau, coming from Souths (as well), I know he's champing at the bit."
