Brett Stewart is targeting his century of tries for Manly when he makes his long-awaited comeback to Brookvale Oval in Sunday's NRL clash with Newcastle.

The 26-year-old former NSW Origin fullback is yet to cross the tryline in his two games this season following a year-long absence, during which he successfully battled a second serious knee injury and also sexual assault charges.

But with a full house expected for the Sea Eagles' opening home game of the 2011 campaign, the stage is set for Stewart to grab the two tries he needs to reach the century mark for the club, in just 121 games.

"I have played two games and not put one over yet, I just haven't got the bounce of the ball," Stewart said on Tuesday.

"I can't seem to get over the hurdle and have been on 98 for a while and it would be nice to finally do it in front of our fans."

An emotional Stewart said on Sunday after captaining his side to a gutsy 27-16 win over Sydney Roosters that he was touched by the unwavering backing he'd received from supporters.

To reach the try century milestone in front to them would be a perfect way to say thank you.

"The support the club gave me rubbed off on the fans and I received a lot of mail that I read personally and it would be fantastic to go back out there and be part of a winning side on Sunday," he said.

"There wasn't much light at the end of the tunnel last season, what got me through it was the club, my family and the fans.

"They all stood by me and thanks to the doctors and physios here I am back playing."
