Parramatta have been rocked by news young hooker Matt Keating will be sidelined for several weeks after being bitten by his dog.

Keating suffered a compound fracture to the index finger on his right hand in what he described as a playful accident with his Aussie Bulldog.

He had surgery on Monday.

The 22-year-old has sustained no damage to the nerves or tendons in the finger, and will be assessed again by a specialist on Tuesday.

"We were mucking around and wrestling when I fell over and took his weight with me and got my finger caught in his mouth," said Keating.

"My partner Sarah took me to my local hospital and I realised I'd done some decent damage, so I consulted the club doctor Steve McNamara and head trainer Craig Catterick.

"I stayed in hospital overnight and had surgery today and the good news is there'll be no lasting problems.

"It's just one of those things that can happen, we were just mucking around."

Keating's injury leaves the Eels with a problem at hooker, with Casey McGuire sidelined with a calf injury, leaving Anthony Mitchell as the only recognised rake in Stephen Kearney's squad.

Keating is expected to be released from hospital on Tuesday and to make a full recovery.

Canberra fullback Josh Dugan will have scans on Tuesday to get to the bottom of his calf problem.

The 20-year-old, who has been tipped for NSW honours this season, limped off in the first half of the Raiders' clash with the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Dugan sustained the injury in a trial match last month and a club official said the issue has baffled the Raiders' medical staff.

"They are not too sure what the root of the problem is, he will have an ultrasound tomorrow," he said.

"At the moment we don't know if he will be fit for the weekend, it is too early to say."

Gold Coast skipper Scott Prince is unsure if he will be able to take his place in the Titans side to face North Queensland on Friday.

Prince missed the win over the Raiders with a hamstring injury, and is expected to get the results of scans on Tuesday.

Veteran fullback Preston Campbell is also in doubt after limping off with knee ligament damage in the 54th minute at Canberra Stadium.

Early suggestions say the 34-year-old could be out for up to a month.
