Luke's contract drama in hands of lawyers

Issac Luke's contract drama is now in the hands of his lawyers, and the South Sydney hooker says he'll simply use the setback as motivation to play better.

A new deal with the Rabbitohs that he negotiated himself was blocked by the NRL last week, as he continues to be locked in dispute with his agent Gavin Orr.

The Player Agent Accreditation Scheme (PAAS) called on the NRL to reject his new four-year contract, which he brokered last month, claiming Souths' decision to negotiate with Luke in the absence of his manager contradicted what the agent accreditation scheme stood for.

However, Luke is frustrated at the red tape preventing him resolving his future and said, without naming names, there were people involved in the process making his life very difficult.

"They're just trying to throw a spanner in the works and trying to mess with a lot of people's heads," Luke told AAP.

"They're just doing it for themselves ... obviously they think they've got a job to do at the end of the day, and I've got a job to do, too.

"It's in the lawyers hands at the moment, I'm not really worried about it.

"They keep coming out (in the media), rah, rah, rah, but it's not going to affect me. I just worry about my footy and my family."

The tenacious No.9 says he hasn't needed the support of his club, because he is used to having barriers put in his path.

In 2009, the 23 year-old was rubbed out of a Test match after being suspended for what the public and media generally perceived as an innocuous incident.

He was reduced to tears as he missed the chance to represent New Zealand.

He admits to feeling a little hard done by over the years.

"I seem to get it with everything you know ... I wouldn't know, the only thing is if you carry on and try and prove them all wrong, it's the only way you're going to get over it," he said.

"That's in the past, it stung at the time ... it was another obstacle they threw in front of me but I got over it. I built a bridge and got over it.

"It's the same with this current thing. I think I've had enough obstacles thrown in front of me to just brush this along as well.

"I've had a lot of practice."
