Thaiday battling sore groin

Brisbane representative prop Sam Thaiday admits the ongoing battle with a groin injury has taken the edge off his power game this season.

Brisbane need Thaiday, who has been pushed into the front-row with fellow representative prop Ben Hannant, to fire against an aggressive Newcastle Knights pack on Monday night.

The Queensland and Australia forward has been ordered to reduce his training workload to prevent osteitis pubis from flaring up.

"It was a little bit sore again after the weekend and they've pulled me back on a few things in training, but I'm ready to go again," he said on Thursday.

"I was feeling good for about three weeks but I did a little bit more work against the Panthers on the weekend which is probably why it's feeling a bit sore."

Thaiday's charges in the second half lifted Brisbane's intensity and turned the momentum Brisbane's way in the 18-10 win.

"I feel it when I'm out there (playing)," he said.

"You can't really tell from watching but there are a few little extra things I was better at last year.

"Fitness-wise I was a lot fitter last year than I am this year.

"It's probably stopped me doing as much work as I like."

"It's a tough position playing in the front row and I forgot just how hard it was. Your heart beats and your lungs scream a lot more playing in that middle part of the field.

Thaiday will have to re-focus on Monday's night's clash with the Knights after asking his girlfriend Rachel, with whom he went to high school in Townsville, to marry him last Saturday.

He had planned to pop the big question during a hot air balloon ride on the Sunshine Coast, but it was cancelled because of bad weather.

Instead, he proposed in a romantic setting - a lakeside villa overlooking the 18th green at the luxurious Hyatta Regency resort on the Sunshine Coast.

"Everything I planned didn't work out at the end of the day I did what I wanted, I popped the question," said Thaiday.

"I tried to make it all romantic and stuff with a hot air balloon ride which got cancelled and a picnic on the beach but none of it worked out.

"I had to ask her twice because she was too busy crying but she did say 'yes' in the end."
