Win-less Lions lick wounds

The way the Brisbane Lions are travelling, cynics could argue the AFL battlers would find it hard even claiming this weekend's bye.

Win-less after three rounds, the Lions' round seven clash with newcomers Gold Coast Suns is already being billed as the battle for the wooden spoon.

But senior Lion Jed Adcock said on Monday the Lions could still find positives after two narrow losses in three weeks.

"We are 3-0 but we could be 2-1 which is a totally different story," he said.

"At the moment we are not far off.

"We've got some good players in good form, we are a tiny bit away from being 2-1 - hopefully in 10 days' time we can come away with a win."

While desperate to atone after letting a 30-point lead slip to lose by 11 to Melbourne on Sunday, the Lions must cool their heels until April 21 - the Easter Thursday "blockbuster" against St Kilda at the Gabba.

Adcock could find the positives in that, too.

"When you are 0-3 you probably don't have momentum on your side - it will be interesting to see how we react to it (bye)," he said.

"The good thing for us is that we play on a Thursday night, so instead of a 14 or 15-day break we only have an 11-day break."

But Adcock admitted the young Lions' confidence had been dented by their season start, which also featured a two-point opening loss to Fremantle at the Gabba.

"It does take a knock at 0-3, but you have to take positives out of the games," he said.

"Look at Jared Polec - 11 touches in the first quarter (against Melbourne).

"I think it was the best first quarter I've seen in a debut.

"Ryan Lester went to defence and went really well, Rohan Bewick played as a sub and got 13 touches in just over a quarter - the young guys are in good form."

Adcock said the Lions' first quarter effort showed they were on the right track - the trick was to replicate it in four terms.

Brisbane held a 25-point quarter-time lead, with 119 team possessions to Melbourne's 88, 19 tackles to six and 40 marks to just 19.

Then it all went pear-shaped.

"If we had turned the second quarter around (on Sunday) we would have won the game," Adcock said.

"We just have to keep working on our structures and our roles and when teams throw different challenges at us we have to adapt.

"Hopefully we can make those changes in 10 days' time."
