Saints still powerhouse - Rich

If it's any consolation to an ailing St Kilda, the Brisbane Lions reckon last season's grand finalists are still an AFL powerhouse.

But cynics could say the win-less Lions see the Gold Coast Suns as pretty scary right now.

The Saints have hardly marched into 2011; their win-less start includes two losses and a draw against Richmond.

However, Lions young gun Daniel Rich has tipped the Saints to "bounce back".

Unfortunately for Rich, the Lions take on St Kilda in their Easter Thursday "blockbuster" at the Gabba.

"They're a great team. They played in a grand final last year...so I'm sure they'll bounce back," said Rich, who will celebrate his 50th AFL game.

"People write a lot of different things about people.

"People have different opinions of where we're going and we obviously think a lot different in-house.

"They're still a great side, we know they're a great side - I think the whole AFL knows they're a great side."

Remarkably Rich, 20, has not missed a game since his debut in a stunning 2009 season.

But the 2009 Rising Star Award winner - and No.7 pick in the 2008 Draft - was trying not to "jinx" his run.

No wonder, considering the Lions' rotten luck this season.

"Touch wood I can make it 50 straight - but I don't want to jinx it," Rich laughed.

"It has gone pretty quickly to be honest.

"That's the great thing about footy - it makes you grow up pretty quickly."

A weekend bye provided some respite for the Lions after opening their season with three straight losses.

But their luck sounds like it didn't change on a weekend bonding trip.

"We got out in the sun and did some fishing, although it wasn't very successful," Rich said.

"I enjoyed a bit of time away with a few of the boys and went camping which was a bit of fun.

"It's good to get around the fire with no TV and just freshen the mind."
