Broncos don't want a good Friday for Benji

Rookie Brisbane coach Anthony Griffin says his players will attempt to unsettle and disrupt the brilliance of Wests Tigers genius Benji Marshall in their NRL clash on Friday night.

Marshall and hooker Robbie Farah have done an excellent job holding the Tigers together through an early injury crisis, and Griffin made it clear on Tuesday both stars would be marked men, as the Broncos attempt to extend their winning streak to six on Good Friday.

While some coaches would be happy enough just to contain Marshall's influence, Griffin's blueprint is to shut him out of the game all together.

"I think you've got to go out and try and stop him," Griffin told AAP.

"I'm not one for having a dollar each way and hoping we just maintain him.

"The challenge with those special players is trying to shut them down.

"If you go out with a neutral attitude of just trying to take care of them, that's when you get into grey areas.

"We'll be doing everything we can to shut him down every time he touches the football."

The Tigers website is promoting the SFS showdown between Marshall and champion Bronco Darren Lockyer as the "the greatest show one earth", urging fans not to miss out seeing the world's best number sixes go head to head for perhaps the last time.

While they'll most likely clash at Test level later in the year before Lockyer hangs up his boots, there's no doubt their battle will be a special one.

Lockyer said on Tuesday he admired and enjoyed watching the way Marshall played.

"I liked watching (former All Black) Carlos Spencer play and Benji is much the same," said Lockyer, pleasantly surprised by Brisbane's quick start to the 2011.

"He just does the unexpected, he's never frightened to chance his arm.

"He can turn a game like few other players, he's just so naturally gifted."

Meanwhile Griffin has rushed utility Ben Hunt (knee) back for the clash with Corey Norman sent back to the under-20s.

Sydney's wet weather last weekend denied Brisbane the chance to fully test their defence against the Roosters but the Tigers expansive attack will give it a serious workout.

"They're arguably the best attacking team in the comp with Farah and Marshall so we're expecting to have to do a lot more defence away from the middle of the field and we're going to have to be very good at it," he said.

Brisbane's middle third defence has been difficult to bust so far and they have done a great job of controlling the ruck.

"We know we're going to get a real test on Friday night," said Griffin.

"We're carrying three forwards on the bench and Ben Hunt will probably spend most of his time in the ruck so they'll all have to do a good job when they get on.

"They've been coming on with the opposition having very few points on the board and it's their job to hold that end up."
