Raiders lose three players to injuries

Canberra coach David Furner remains upbeat ahead of Sunday's NRL clash with Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium despite losing three players to injury.

Furner is counting the cost of last Sunday's 40-24 loss to North Queensland after key players Terry Campese, Josh Dugan and Joel Thompson were all injured at Canberra Stadium.

The club announced on Tuesday five-eighth Campese would be out for up to three months after hurting his groin just nine minutes into his comeback match from a knee injury.

Dugan will miss up to five weeks with an ankle problem, ruling him out of State of Origin II, while Thompson faces an indefinite absence due to a groin problem.

But Furner was confident the Raiders could still bounce back despite sitting last on the competition ladder midway through the season.

"We're by all means not out of it but we've got a tough challenge this week," Furner said.

"With the very disappointing loss, we've sustained some major injuries.

"That hasn't helped our cause."

Furner was frustrated the injury toll had prevented him from fielding his strongest side against the Broncos.

"It was the first time I thought we were back to our full strength squad. We haven't had that most of the year," Furner said.

Furner conceded on Tuesday he had done the wrong thing by approaching match officials at halftime of Sunday's loss to the Cowboys.

He was fined $5000 by the NRL over the incident but denied he had acted in the heat of the moment.

"I thought I'd done it politely ... I did make mention that our kickers were getting taken out," Furner said.

"I've got tremendous respect for the referees and Gavin (Badger). He's a very good referee."

Furner said he would not be approaching match officials again and would discuss the matter with NRL referees coaches Bill Harrigan and Stuart Raper.

Furner said this season, which included a period of eight consecutive losses by the Raiders, has been his toughest as a coach.

"The number of losses there in a row was tough. The game on the weekend was probably my hardest," he said.
