Port seek atonement against Kangaroos

Port Adelaide is seeking atonement for their lamest loss in a bleak AFL season when they host North Melbourne on Sunday, coach Matthew Primus says.

While the Power have lost 10 times this season, Primus rates their round six capitulation to the Kangaroos as their worst defeat.

North crushed Port by 10 goals in that Etihad Stadium encounter but the final margin flattered the Power as the Roos had 20 more scoring shots than the South Australian club.

"Our most disappointing effort in intensity was when we played North earlier this year," Primus said ahead of their AAMI Stadium twilight rematch.

"North are very consistent in a lot of areas.

"You know they're always in the game and are always at you and they've obviously hit a bit of form over the last few weeks and beaten some good teams."

The Kangaroos are chasing four consecutive victories for the first time since 2008 against the lowly Power, languishing in 16th spot with just two wins.

Primus said he considered the rising North as a template for how to rebuild on-field fortunes.

"They have got a couple of their very good players in a rich vein of form and health-wise they seem to be getting their best list up and going, so it's a good time for them," he said.

"Our last month has been okay but we still haven't won.

"I have been happy with the effort of the players but we just need to execute a lot better and that will be our challenge against North, who make it pretty difficult to that."

Primus has consistently overlooked a senior core for selection, with experienced players Chad Cornes, Brett Ebert, Steven Salopek and Jacob Surjan still absent.

And the first-year coach pledged to continue to plump for youth for the remainder of the season.

"There is still more we want to look at over the next 10 weeks," he said.

"And that has probably more got to do with younger players and what their strengths and weaknesses are, and where our strengths and weaknesses are in positions.

" ... The next 10 weeks will give us a real good look at it."
