Ablett faces scan on knee injury

Scans on Monday will reveal the extent of Gary Ablett's knee injury, which is expected to keep the Gold Coast skipper out of action for several weeks.

Ablett limped off the field during the first quarter of Saturday night's AFL loss to Sydney at Metricon Stadium.

The 2009 Brownlow Medallist returned the field during the second term before being substituted off.

AFL medical specialist Peter Larkins told Nine's The Sunday Footy Show that the first-year club's marquee signing was unlikely to be facing a long stint on the sidelines.

"There's no question that's not a major ligament injury," Larkins said.

"It's going to be either meniscus or just bruising in the bone, nothing more dramatic than that.

"It just doesn't seem like much at all."

Gold Coast defender Campbell Brown suffered a shoulder injury but may be fit to play against Richmond in Cairns next Saturday.

However defender Nathan Bock is in doubt with a groin strain.

Sydney onballer Jude Bolton withdrew from Saturday night's 70-point win over the Suns after complaining of knee soreness in the warm-up.

"When Jude says that you really listen because he's such a tough nut," Sydney coach John Longmire said.

"That doesn't happen too often to a bloke like Jude. I'm hoping it's OK."

Bolton also faces scans on Monday.

Brisbane Lions defender Ash McGrath could be out for several weeks after hurting his knee in Saturday's loss to Hawthorn in Launceston.

Lions coach Michael Voss said early indications were that the injury was not a major one.

Essendon skipper Jobe Watson expects to miss possibly one more week with a hamstring strain.

"I'm not one hundred per cent. I'll probably have a few fitness tests this week," Watson told Seven's AFL Game Day.

"So possibly the coming week but maybe not until the week after."

Essendon coach James Hird said he was confident Michael Hurley (ribs), Travis Colyer (head knock) and Heath Hocking (glute) would be fit for Friday's trip to Adelaide to play the Crows.

West Coast rover Daniel Kerr was sore following Friday's win over Geelong but is yet to be ruled out of Saturday night's Etihad Stadium clash with St Kilda.
