West Coast forward Josh Kennedy will miss Sunday's AFL clash with Richmond to ensure he doesn't suffer any complications from his recent eye injury.

Kennedy, who suffered bleeding to his eye after being accidentally hit with a tennis ball thrown by team-mate Dean Cox last Thursday, was released from hospital on Sunday after spending four days immobilised to limit the damage.

The 23-year-old is expected to make a full recovery but has been told to restrict his activity this week to avoid risking long-term damage.

"He's laying low for the week. He's going to rest up and make sure there's no exertion or possible re-bleeding around the eye," Kennedy's manager Wayne Loxley told AAP on Monday.

"He went home yesterday so it's obviously settled down.

"But the concern is any undue exertion for the next several days can have some complications further down the track.

"The eye's good at the moment. He's just got to take it easy.

"When I spoke to him on Friday, the plan was that he wouldn't be playing this week."

Kennedy's absence will be offset by the expected return of ruckman Nic Naitanui, who missed last week's win over the Bulldogs due to soreness.

Defender Sam Butler could also return from a quad injury, but the Eagles will closely monitor the fitness of vice-captain Beau Waters, who copped a minor knock to his left elbow at training last week, before landing awkwardly on his right elbow against the Bulldogs.

Waters, who had previously suffered serious injuries to both elbows, was subbed out of the game at three-quarter time.

But in a promising sign, the 25-year-old wasn't included on West Coast's injury list on Monday.

However, Daniel Kerr remains in doubt after missing the past three games due to a series of sore spots relating to the hamstring he injured last year.

The Eagles sit in fifth place on the ladder but are just two points adrift of fourth-placed Carlton, who have played an extra game.

West Coast will use the home game against Richmond to celebrate their 25th year in the AFL, with the club's inaugural Hall of Fame to be launched on Friday night.
