On the same day Tom Scully defected to AFL expansion team Greater Western Sydney, Melbourne were able to confirm two re-signings.

They announced Cale Morton and Stefan Martin had committed to the club until the end of 2013.

Morton had an injury-interrupted season but managed 14 games for a career total of 64.

Martin was a big improver this season, taking over the ruck duties while Mark Jamar was injured, and has played 50 senior matches.

"Stef had a breakout season in 2011 and showed that he can play a variety of roles in our team," said Demons list manager Tim Harrington.

"We still believe he has further improvement in his game.

"Cale is an important player - his versatility is really positive and because of his age (21), his best years are still ahead of him."
