A man and a woman have been charged with the theft of two AFL players' medical records from a drug rehabilitation clinic.

The Seven Network used information in the records in a report last Friday, claiming the players had been referred to the clinic by a club doctor after testing positive to the recreational drugs ice, cocaine and ecstasy.

The allegations were based on medical records a woman sold to Seven. Shee allegedly claim she had found them "in the gutter" outside a rehabilitation clinic in the Melbourne suburb of Ivanhoe.

Police said the man, 36, and the woman, 31, from Ivanhoe West, would appear in the Heidelberg Magistrates Court on October 31.

The arrests followed a police raid on Seven's Docklands headquarters in Melbourne on Monday.

Victoria Police confirmed they had seized a number of documents under warrant, with Seven co-operating with the investigation.
