Australia's Alicia Molik has been eliminated from the Kremlin Cup after losing her first round match 6-2 2-6 6-3 to Russia's Elena Dementieva.
In other women's matches, eighth seed Nicole Vaidisova has beaten Russia's qualifier Yaroslava Shvedova 7-6 6-3 and Gisela Dulko of Argentina has overcome India's Sania Mirza 6-3 6-4.
In the men's draw, top seed Nikolay Davydenko has advanced to the second round with a 7-6 6-2 win over France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, while fifth seed Marat Safin has won 7-6 7-5 over Russian compatriot Denis Matsukevitch.
