Farina says plenty by keeping quiet

Frank was Frank - except when it came to answering questions about the referee.

Then Frank Farina - petrified of again being slugged with a fine from Football Federation Australia - bit his tongue ... just.

"Every country in the world you can't comment on things like that ... you can't say anything (about the referee) unless it's very nice," quipped the Queensland coach.

Both the Roar and Newcastle had plenty of reasons to be upset with some of the decisions of referee Peter Green in the A-League preliminary final.

But with the Jets winning 3-2 in extra time to set up a grand final with Central Coast, it was Queensland who were by far the more agitated post-match.

Farina had no problems with Green's awarding of the first of three dubious penalties - which went the Roar's way with Simon Lynch going down in the box under slight contact from Adam D'Apuzzo.

But when asked what he could say about the Jets penalty in extra time - which was given after Jin-Hyung Song fell down after a nudge from Sasa Ognenovski well away from goal - Farina kept it brief.

"Nothing ... because the police watch everything I say so I really can't comment any more," he said.

The Roar coach, however, did admit his side's failure to convert several chances in the first half proved costly.

Marchino, Matt McKay, Robbie Kruse and Michael Zullo all had great chances with just the goalkeeper to beat, but panicked in front of goal and failed to hit the target.

"There were four or five clear-cut chances and we didn't take any, and most probably that was one of the most important things that cost us," the former Socceroos boss said.

Farina was also honest when asked what he thought of next week's grand final match-up.

"I really don't give a shit to be honest," he said.

"It could go either way, it should be a good grand final," he added.

"Certainly I'll be watching."

He was also forthright about Ognenovski's future at the club.

The hot-headed defender, rumoured to be heading to Adelaide United next season, has clashed with teammates several times at training this season.

Asked was this Ognenovski's last game for the club, Farina replied: "Yes it was."
