A late equaliser from Travis Brooks salvaged Australia a 2-2 draw against India and maintained its unbeaten record in the men's Four Nations Hockey Challenge at Sydney Olympic Park.

Brooks goaled with 68 seconds remaining to rescue a point for the Kookaburras, who fell behind to a 61st minute field goal from Deepak Thakur.

Thakur had the chance to clinch the match two minutes from fulltime, but struck the outside of the post with another attempt.

Australia swept upfield and Brooks tapped home from close range.

Earlier Jamie Dwyer put Australia ahead in the 13th minute, but Jatinder Pal Singh equalised right on halftime from a penalty corner.

Australia created more chances early on, but India fought back well in the second quarter.

Malaysia headed the standings on six point in the round-robin stage after beating South Africa 2-1 to record its second victory in successive nights.

Australia was next on four points, followed by India, 1, and South Africa 0.

In the final set of round-robin games on Saturday, Australia will play Malaysia and India faces South Africa.

Australia and Malaysia will almost certainly meet again in Sunday's final unless the Kookaburras loses on Saturday and India records a big victory.
