Aussies claim first men's diving gold

Mathew Helm and Robert Newbery claimed Australia's first men's diving gold in the men's synchronised platform at the world swimming championships in Barcelona.

Helm's gold added to his silver, won Saturday in the men's 10 metre platform event.

Roman Volod'kov and Anton Zakharov of the Ukraine took silver with the defending champions Tian Liang and Hu Jia having to settle for bronze.

The Australians moved ahead of the Chinese leaders after the fourth dive winning with a combined 384.60 for their first men's gold at world championships.

The Ukrainians scored 372.60 with the Chinese scoring 367.14.

It's the second gold of the championships for Australia after Irina Lashko won the one-metre springboard event.
