Pressure eases on Langmack

The pressure on South Sydney coach Paul Langmack eased somewhat after the Rabbitohs ended a five game losing streak in the first National Rugby League draw since the golden point was introduced last season.

After 80 minutes of regular time and a 10 minute golden point period, Souths and North Queensland were still locked up at 20-20 at Gosford's Central Coast Stadium - much to the relief of the besieged Langmack.

Speculation was rife that another loss would sound a death knell for Langmack, who managed just three wins last year and arrived in Gosford holding the reins of a dead last Rabbitohs with a 2-6 record.

Langmack said speculation that the Rabbitohs board had lost confidence in him came from "sharks circling around the club who are not involved" while Souths chairman Nicholas Pappas endorsed the coach for the rest of the season.

"It's just rumours ... whatever happens is going to happen. I'm doing my best, the players are doing their best and it's all we can do ... but it's been a hard month for us," Langmack said.

Pappas said: "It's typical journalistic licence to speculate and it's got nothing to do with reality, Paul - as I keep saying - retains the full confidence of the board and we are battling on.

"The injuries are a huge factor ... it makes a big difference to the side."

Pappas described the rumours about Langmack as "absolute nonsense".

"As far as we are concerned we have a coach, we have a team, we have assistant coaches and they are here to see us through - when a team does poorly for a few weeks there is always that conjecture," he said.

"(Tonight) I was delighted with the result. For the courage it makes it a win ... morally it is a win."
