Deja vu as Wallabies beat Scotland

It was a case of deja vu at Telstra Stadium as winger Lote Tuqiri scored two tries and the Wallabies struggled to overcome a plucky Scottish side before eventually winning 34-13.

Tuqiri again showed his poise and ability to finish on the left-hand side, bagging a double as he did in the first Test in Melbourne six days ago.

But as Tuqiri had his Groundhog Day so did the Australians who had the similar problems putting away the Scots 35-15 at the Telstra Dome last Sunday.

"We're going to have to improve a hell of a lot before we take on England," Tuqiri said of next Saturday's game against the World Cup winner.

"We're not even scratching the surface and next week is going to be a big test."

Injury-riddled and this week missing suspended lock Stuart Grimes, the visitors were expected to pose few problems for the Wallabies.

But Scotland broke the line more than they did in Melbourne with only a lack of pace and surer final hands preventing more than the one try it scored this evening.

Starting and finishing posed few problems for the home side - it was the stuff in between that let them down.

A lack of a general-play kicking game - just four in total - and some out-of-character defensive lapses were the most obvious.

Guided by five eighth Stephen Larkham - who had a strong game with the ball in hand - the Australians, however, always looked set for the win.
