Slater ready to take few risks in Origin

Electrifying Queensland fullback Billy "see-ya-later" Slater says he'll play his free spirited style despite NSW tactics to rough him up in Origin I.

Slater played on the wing last year because of fitness fears.

He's been switched to fullback ahead of incumbent Rhys Wesser to allow his attacking genius to shine.

NSW consider Slater prone to errors because of the ruthless way he attacks the football.

"(NSW) have said they're going to get into me a bit but they do that every week, I get targeted with the Storm all the time," said the 21 year-old Innisfail flyer.

"I always knew they were going to do it - every NRL teams does it."

Slater was dumped on his head in a nasty tackle during last year's Origin series.

The tackle, which attracted a penalty, would have drawn far more attention had it occurred in an NRL game.

"I guess a little bit gets let go there (Origin) so I'm not complaining about it," said Slater.

Origin matches are often so close they can be decided by a simple mistake when players are out on their feet.
