Magpies stun Geelong

Lowly Collingwood has stunned Geelong, scoring its third-straight AFL win in front of a near-capacity Telstra Dome crowd.

The Magpies started strongly and withstood Geelong's second-half challenge in a riveting contest to upset the Cats by 25 points, 18.13 (121) to 14.12 (96).

Alan Didak kicked five goals and James Clement played another superb game in defence to be Collingwood's best.

After dominating the first half, Collingwood steadily ran out of puff and Geelong finished full of running.

There were crucial mistakes in the last quarter, first Collingwood's Paul Licuria running across the mark early in the term to give Cameron Ling a 50m penalty and a goal.

Then, with Geelong trailing by only 19 points, the Cats turned the ball over in the midfield and the 'Pies kicked a steadier.

A few minutes later Chris Tarrant took a brilliant mark over Matthew Scarlett and goalled to restore the margin to 31 points.

But the Cats were not done with, kicking three goals and reducing the margin to only 12 points.

Rookie Travis Cloke capped off another impressive game in his debut year by kicking a goal to stop Geelong's late run.

Geelong came into tonight's match second on the ladder and the strong favourite, despite its upset loss last week to Fremantle.
