Knights earn first win over Mariners

New Zealand Knights claimed a shock 2-0 victory over Central Coast Mariners at Central Coast Stadium to secure their first A-League points and lift themselves off the bottom of the table.

Knights goalkeeper Danny Milosevic starred in setting up the first goal and making a string of superb saves.

New Zealand striker Simon Yeo opened the scoring after Milosevic booted the ball forward in the 70th minute.

Yeo outran Central Coast defender Andrew Clark and beat goalkeeper John Crawley to the ball to loop a header into the net.

New Zealand substitute Sean Devine doubled the Knights' lead in the 79th minute.

Devine had time to look up inside the penalty area and pick his spot, before curling a shot past Crawley.

Milosevic made two crucial saves from Central Coast striker Stewart Petrie when the Knights were one goal ahead.

New Zealand strikers Simon Yeo and Joshua Rose were active up front and well serviced by attacking midfielder Zenon Caravella. Caravella's darting runs forward constantly worried the Central Coast defence.

The match was played before a crowd of 5231 people.

While the Mariners looked impressive when attacking, their form in front of goal let them down and their defence was less solid than in recent matches.
