The Townsville Crocodiles ended their eight-game losing streak on Friday night with a 115-99 victory against the Cairns Taipans in an emotion-charged derby at the Swamp.

Crocs Skipper John Rillie set up the win with a blistering first half to finish with 25 points while imports Larry Abney and Casey Calvary added 29 and 22 respectively.

Veteran guard Anthony Stewart top scored for his team with 25 while Gary Boodnikoff sparked a brief second half fightback finishing with 21.

The victory snapped the second longest losing run in the Crocs' history while ending the Taipans' hopes of winning three straight on the road for the first time since their inception seven years ago.

Cairns jumped out of the blocks to score the first seven points of the game before the Crocs found their groove to finish the first quarter deadlocked at 27-all.

Rillie was close to unstoppable in the first half, hitting all five of his three point attempts to finish with 22 points for the stanza.

Townsville lifted on the back of the captain's efforts exploding for 40 points in the second term to take a 67-53 lead into the long break.
