Schifcofske snub dumbfounds Elliot

Frustrated Canberra coach Matthew Elliott has broken his silence on Clinton Schifcofske's omission from the Queensland team, claiming he doesn't know what else the in-form fullback has to do to win an Origin recall.

Elliott has been reticent to criticise Maroons selectors for fear of jeopardising Schifcofske's chances.

But when his fullback was snubbed again, it proved the final straw.

"I don't really have a clear way of saying it, I just don't understand," Elliott said.

"I'm not being confrontational, I just can't understand it.

"Clinton is never, ever going to complain about anything. I'm just expressing my disappointment for him."

Queensland selectors made four changes when they announced their side on Monday, but no place could be found for Schifcofske, who has been one of the form players in the NRL this season.

The 27-year-old played one game for Queensland last year, but was dropped after the Maroons lost game one.

Queensland subsequently came back to win game two and a draw in game three was enough to retain the Origin shield.

Bookmakers are banking on Queensland failing to repeat that this season, with NSW installed as short-priced favourite to win game two and the series next week.
