Two-time Olympic 1,500m freestyle champion Grant Hackett has pulled out of this week's NSW swimming championships following his recent decision to swap coaches.

Hackett announced last week that he was parting from long-time mentor Dennis Cotterell and moving to Melbourne to join Ian Pope's squad.

He had planned to contest the 200m and 400m freestyle at the NSW titles starting on Friday in the lead-up to next month's world championships in Melbourne.

But Hackett's management company International Quarterback announced that he would no longer be competing in Sydney.

"Swimming NSW was informed of the withdrawal this morning, resulting from his recent decision to relocate to Melbourne and train under new coach Ian Pope," International Quarterback said in a statement.
