Thaiday to Bennett: Don't do the Haka

Brisbane forward Sam Thaiday has cautioned his club coach Wayne Bennett against attempting the Haka as an adopted Kiwi helping New Zealand regain some rugby league respect.

Bennett has handed the Broncos reins to incoming coach Ivan Henjak this week to help former Kiwi international Stephen Kearney prepare New Zealand for Friday night's Centenary Test against Australia at the SCG.

A playful Thaiday said the sight of his coach lined up in black alongside Kiwi enforcers David Kidwell, Roy Asotasi and Sonny Bill Williams was "pretty weird".

"He was doing all the cousie bros and all the high fives and stuff, I think he'll have a good time down there," joked Thaiday when asked his thoughts about his coach's involvement with the Kiwis.

"It's really good to see him helping them out and hopefully he can get than back up to that world class standard."

But Thaiday also had a message for his coach: "Don't do the Haka, Wayne."

"I think if Wayne slapped his legs too hard he might break something," said Thaiday, who's playing some great football in recent weeks.

Thaiday revealed Bennett had told his players he would "ink up" with his bros and return to the Broncos with some pretty "mean tatts".

"He said he was going to come back with some mean tatts, he told us he was going to get a moku (tattoo) on his face."

When Thaiday was told Williams was scared of Bennett, he quickly slipped back into his comedy routine.

"There's nothing to be scared of with Wayne, he's a big sissy," said Thaiday, flashing a cheeky smile.
