West Coast's Adam Selwood is out of hospital, but the AFL midfielder will have further medical assessment Monday on his throat injury.

Selwood was kept in hospital overnight for observation after suffering a bruised larynx in an incident with Geelong forward Steve Johnson.

An Eagles spokesman said Selwood "probably won't" play in next Friday night's MCG game against Hawthorn.

In a further blow for the Eagles, who suffered a 135-point thrashing from the Cats, defender Beau Waters will miss the rest of the season.

He dislocated his elbow while playing for Claremont in the WAFL and has underdone surgery.

Fremantle pair Luke McPharlin and Michael Johnson will undergo scans on Monday after suffering injuries in Friday night's eight-point loss to St Kilda at Telstra Dome.

McPharlin hurt his ribs in a marking contest, but he was cleared to fly home on Saturday after x-rays cleared him of lung damage.

He will have further x-rays to confirm whether he has suffered cracked ribs.

His absence for much of the second half was a major blow for the Dockers.

Johnson was forced off in the first quarter when he rolled his ankle.

He returned to the game after needing a painkiller and was on crutches post-match.

The Saints are hopeful that midfielder Lenny Hayes will be available for Saturday's match against North Melbourne.

Hayes had an incredible 16 possessions in the first quarter against the Dockers before a back-related hamstring injury ended his night.

He will have further assessment, but a Saints spokesman said Hayes and the club were "pretty positive" the onballer would not miss any games.

Following Saturday's loss to Richmond and the declaration from coach Mark Williams that the finals are out of reach, Port Adelaide star Chad Cornes might undergo knee surgery.

Cornes has been battling injury and also hurt his calf, although he played out the game.

Adding to Port's woes, Peter Burgoyne is out for two to three weeks with a hamstring injury and Steven Salopek (Achilles tendon) faces three weeks on the sidelines.
