Hawthorn utility Jarryd Morton has capped a big footballing weekend for his family by earning the round 13 nomination for the AFL Rising Star award.

In his fifth senior match on Saturday against North Melbourne, the 19-year-old gathered 33 disposals across half-back and in the midfield.

He was a shining light as the Hawks went down by 27 points for only their second loss of 2008.

Morton was recruited by the Hawks from WAFL side Claremont with pick No.33 in the 2006 national draft.

"Jarryd has come into the side and shown why we rate him so highly," said Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson.

"He has offered us plenty of run from the wing and flanks and since his first senior game, he has continued to impress us with his aptitude to the pace of the game at the highest level."

Morton's older brother Mitch booted five goals for Richmond in their thrilling win over Port Adelaide on Saturday, while younger brother Cale has impressed with 11 games for Melbourne in his debut season.
