Tigers beat Titans 28-12 in dead rubber

Wests Tigers finished their NRL season in style with a convincing 28-12 win over the Gold Coast Titans at Skilled Park.

With both teams out of finals contention, the game was all about pride, but made a fitting farewell for courageous Tigers skipper Brett Hodgson who heads to the UK next season.

Hodgson was his typical self, taking several big hits, making try-saving tackles and always dangerous in attack in a best-on-ground display.

The Titans went close to opening the scoring in the second minute but it was the Tigers who struck first when centre Tim Moltzen crossed after a neat inside ball from halfback John Morris in the fifth minute.

Moltzen scored again 10 minutes later and Hodgson's sideline conversion took the score out to 12-0.

A try to teenage centre Chris Lawrence soon after, and another sideline conversion from Hodgson, took the score out to 18-0 and the signs were not good for the home side.

The Titans finally got on the scoreboard seven minutes before the break when halfback Scott Prince grubbered and regathered to score close to the uprights.

However the revival was short-lived as tries after the break to Tigers wingers Taniela Tuiaki and Beau Ryan effectively ended the contest at 28-6 with 22 minutes to go.

The Titans crossed late through centre Brett Delaney but it was purely academic.

The win sees the Tigers finish the season in 10th place while the Titans slipped to 13th despite leading the competition near the halfway stage.
