Brisbane star utility Jared Brennan will have to miss just one game for headbutting Port Adelaide's Josh Carr.

Brennan was among five players hit with suspensions by the AFL match review panel from the weekend's round.

Port Adelaide defender Troy Chaplin can accept a two-match sanction for a charging offence against Lions youngster Daniel Rich at AAMI Stadium on Saturday.

Melbourne's Colin Sylvia faces three games on the sidelines for striking West Coast's Scott Selwood, Sylvia not helped by carryover points from a previous offence.

North Melbourne's Daniel Pratt has also been hurt by his poor record, with a penalty loading meaning he faces a one-match ban for striking Sydney's Nick Malceski, when he could otherwise have escaped with a reprimand.

Carlton's Mark Austin has also been offered a one-game suspension for striking Fremantle's Hayden Ballantyne.

The only other charge laid was against Melbourne's Ricky Petterd, who faces a fine for abusing an umpire.

While several players were hurt by their prior records, Brennan's previous good behaviour counted in his favour.

A penalty reduction for a five-year clean record means an offence that would otherwise have cost him a two-game ban will be reduced to one, if he pleads guilty.

Brennan's headbutt on Carr early in the final quarter left the Power tagger with blood running from his head.
