The Brisbane Lions overcame a determined Fremantle to win by 15 points at a wet Subiaco Oval on Saturday night.

The 9.8 (62) to 7.5 (47) win cements the Lions in sixth spot, while Fremantle remain last after a ninth straight loss despite a much better effort than the humiliating 117-point loss to Adelaide last week.

Daniel Rich returned to the ground where he played in two WAFL premierships with Subiaco and starred for the Lions to be best on ground.

He had 31 possessions and a goal, receiving great support from Bradd Dalziell (22 possessions), Simon Black (21) and Michael Rischitelli (19).

Injuries were the order of the night with Brisbane losing Daniel Bradshaw (hamstring) early, while Fremantle's Andrew Foster hurt an ankle.

In the second half, Lion Jared Brennan (ankle) and Docker Chris Tarrant (knee) also went off.

Fremantle worked hard all night, but lacked the polish in the second half, best served by Garrick Ibbotson (27 disposals), Paul Duffield (26), Paul Hasleby (26) and Clancee Pearce (21).

Kepler Bradley got Fremantle on the board early before Bradshaw answered for the Lions.

Scott Thornton kicked the last goal of the first term to see the Dockers up by eight points.

Fremantle retained the lead with an early goal to Adam Campbell in the second term, but it took almost 20 minutes for the next goal to Brisbane ruckman Mitch Clark.

Fremantle's lead dwindled back to seven points by halftime after a goal to Jonathan Brown just before the siren.

The Lions came out roaring after the break with quick goals to Brown and Justin Sherman to take the lead before Bradley capitalised on a poor kick from Dalziell to kick a great goal from the boundary.

Rich hit back for the Lions with a big long goal and Brown took advantage of Tarrant going off to kick his third.

David Mundy's goal just before three quarter-time had Fremantle back within eight points.

It was a tough and tight opening to the last quarter until Dalziell got the first goal for Brisbane at the 12-minute mark that put his side up by a game-high 15 points.

Brown then added his fourth to almost seal the game in tough conditions.
