News Limited boss John Hartigan has launched a withering attack on rugby league player agents in the wake of the Melbourne salary cap scandal.

Hartigan, whose company owns the disgraced Storm, has described managers as "misfits" and a "blight on the game" in an interview with Rugby League Week.

Hartigan addressed the Storm players and staff on Tuesday, where he called former Melbourne Storm CEO Brian Waldron the "chief rat" of the NRL club's salary cap rorting.

But player managers were also in Hartigan's sights as he vowed to restore the club's image.

"Don't start me on them," Hartigan said of player agents.

"I think they're a bunch of misfits. I really mean it.

"I think that there's got to be, going forward, a realisation that players are responsible for what this mob cobble together for them.

"I think they are a blight on the game."
