Gold Coast will play their first AFL match in round two next year against Richmond at the Gabba.

The league's chief operating officer Gillon McLachlan has told the afl.com.au website that the debutants will have the bye in round one and play their first home game at the Gabba.

The club's home stadium is not expected to be completed until late May.

Gold Coast will play some home games at the Gabba and possibly one in Cairns while they wait for Carrara Stadium to be fully operational.
