Collingwood have named skipper Nick Maxwell, while Adelaide have brought in key forward Kurt Tippett for his first AFL match of the season.

Maxwell has not played since he suffered internal injuries in the pre-season semi-final against West Coast last month.

He will lead the Pies into their clash with Carlton on Friday night at the MCG.

Tippett injured his ankle in the pre-season, but will play for the Crows in their home clash with Fremantle on Saturday.

The Western Bulldogs have also named defenders Brian Lake and Lindsay Gilbee to play Gold Coast on Saturday.

Both will play their first games of the home-and-away season after proving their fitness in reserves matches.

But Gold Coast have lost one of their few experienced players - ruckman Josh Fraser - to an ankle injury.
