Essendon have kicked an AFL record score in the first quarter of their round-six match against Gold Coast at Etihad Stadium.

The Bombers lead 15.4 (94) to Gold Coast's 0.1 (1), beating the previous record of 13.3 (81) by Hawthorn against North Melbourne in round 16, 1982. North also kicked 13.3 (81) against Richmond in round two, 1990.

South Melbourne's fourth-quarter tally of 17.4 (106) against St Kilda in round 12, 1919 is the best score in any quarter of an AFL match.
