Heighington ready for battle

There's no more talk of switching his allegiance to England for Country lock Chris Heighington.

The Wests Tigers star is looking for a massive game against City on Friday night to help springboard him into the NSW State of Origin side.

The 28-year-old was so gutted at missing out on state selection last year he thought seriously about playing for England.

"My dad is from England and I'm very proud of where he's from and I was considering it," Heighington said.

But with new NSW coach Ricky Stuart's involvement in City-Country selections, Heighington believes he now has a genuine shot at playing for the Blues.

"Over the last year or so I've been disappointed with not getting a look in at Origin, but this year I've been given an opportunity and I'm going to take it with both hands," he said.

"My focus is on playing well against City on Friday night. It should be a good battle.

"I think Ricky Stuart had a big say in who got into these sides and that's very good for the players who have been picked to know he's considering us."

Heighington will be going up against some familiar faces on Friday night in Albury with four of his Tigers teammates in the City forward pack.

"It's great reward for the Tigers boys and I'm really happy for Simon Dwyer and Liam Fulton particularly, they're great blokes and deserve their chance at this level," he said.

"There won't be any extra niggle out there. I'll just be tackling my mates like they're just another player.

"I'm really looking forward to the challenge."
