The Australian cricket team will be keen to restore their reputation as the sport's benchmark during their tour of India.

The players landed in Bangalore on Wednesday evening and are due to have their first training session on Thursday.

The Australians have flown in from South Africa after being bundled out in the semi-finals of the Twenty20 world championships by eventual winners India.

The one-day and Test world champions suffered from numerous injury problems during the tournament and it came after a long break from international competition.

The opening match of a seven-game one-day series against the host nation will be held this Saturday in Bangalore.

The Australians will meet an Indian side oozing with self belief following the victory in the Twenty20 world championship.

The Indians welcome back Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly with the veteran trio under some pressure to perform following the team's success in the game's most frenetic form.
