Hawthorn will leave it as late as possible for captain Shane Crawford to prove his fitness for its AFL match against West Coast in Perth.
Crawford badly bruised his back last weekend.
The Hawks and Essendon sit just half a game outside the top eight and an upset win will be a massive boost to Hawthorn.
West Coast has made four changes with former Hawk Daniel Chick recovering from shoulder surgery to line up against his old side and Brent Staker making his AFL debut.
