Sweden's Niclas Fasth, England's Miles Tunnicliff and Melbourne's Richard Green equalled the course record on the second day of the Holden New Zealand Open, dispelling any suggestion tournament golf had become boring.

Fasth managed three eagles in his round, including a back-to-back pair, along with a similar number of birdies, in a flawless round of a nine under par 63 to move to 16-under par and a stroke clear of his rivals on the Gulf Harbour course north of Auckland.

The Spain-based Tunnicliff is in second spot on 14-under par after his effort of an eagle and eight birdies as he seeks a third European Tour victory.

Fellow England-born player, Oliver Wilson, is next best on 13-under par and one clear of Perth's Jarrod Moseley and Brisbane's Simon Nash, who carded bogey free rounds of 66 and 67 respectively.

Green, who also managed an eagle and eight birdies including a chip-in birdie at the last, is among seven players on 11 under par.

Fasth began his round in a five-way share of second before managing a second hole birdie and then a sixth hole eagle.

The 32-year-old former European Ryder Cup star then holed a 12-metre putt for eagle at the par five, 11th, before managing to draw level with Tunnicliff when he brilliantly holed his second shot from a bunker at the par four, 12th hole for the third eagle of his round.

The quietly spoken Fasth, with only the 2000 Madeira Island Open win to his credit, then moved clear of Tunnicliff with birdies at 15 and 17.

"This is a game where you never know when the putts are going to drop but today they just managed to find the hole," said Fasth.

"The scoring has been fantastic for two days and I played really, really well today with my game almost flawless because I hardly missed a shot out there today."
