Stand-in Bullets captain Stephen Black may be forced to lock the razor away for a little longer after a game breaking performance secured Brisbane a home playoff match after a 104-91 win over Melbourne at the Brisbane Convention Centre.

Black, sporting a promising beard for the first time this season following a week without shaving, poured in a game high 34 points to set up an elimination final with Hunter next Wednesday.

The former Perth general nailed five three-pointers and added eight assists to his tally to cap off a memorable night.

Hulking import Bobby Brannen was also a force for the hosts, finishing the game with 19 points and 21 rebounds while Bryant Matthews also had a double-double with 24 points and 16 rebounds as well as five steals.

Brannen and Matthew's work around the glass allowed the Bullets to outrebound their opponents 65-52 with Tigers big men Mark Bratdke, David Stiff and Neil Mottram restricted to 20 boards between them.

Bradtke finished with a team high 19 points while veteran Andrew Gaze scored just 15 points in a tired display.

Brisbane got away to a typically blistering start to the game, cruising to a 33-21 break after the first term.

Not even two technicals foul from Townsville referee Vaughn Mayberry against coach Joey Wright and Matthews could stop the Bullets' momentum in the second quarter with the home side extending their lead to 17 points at the main break.

"You're kidding me," was enough to earn Wright the technical after being warned by referee Vaughn Mayberry in the early stages of the encounter.

The Tigers managed to score the first points of the third quarter through Lanard Copeland but a devastating 16-0 by Brisbane soon after effectively sealed the win.
