Reigning champion Sydney Swifts won its biggest match of the season to date as it vanquished the previously unbeaten Adelaide Thunderbirds 60-49 at Adelaide's ETSA Park.

In a match featuring several members of the Australian squad to play New Zealand in Sydney later this month, the undefeated Swifts held sway at the end of every quarter.

It was Sydney's fifth straight win and they retained top spot on percentage from Melbourne Phoenix, the only other unbeaten team, with Adelaide dropping to third.

The Swifts led 17-11 at quarter time and 30-26 at the long break.

The Thunderbirds levelled the game in the third quarter but lost momentum after a time out and entered the last term with a five-goal deficit which Sydney increased in the last 12 minutes.

Sydney shot 86 per cent to Adelaide's 82 per cent with Katherine Cox landing 35 goals at 87 per cent and Meagan Anderson 25 at 83 per cent for the Swifts.

Kristen Heinrich finished with 28 goals at 85 per cent while Natalie Medhurst tallied 21 at 78 per cent for the Thunderbirds.

In other matches, Hunter Jaegars registered their first victory at home this season when they beat Melbourne Kestrels 59-44 at Newcastle Entertainment Centre while Melbourne Phoenix beat Perth Orioles 59-50 to maintain their solid start to the season.

In the battle for fourth spot, the Jaegars led at every break and expanded their advantage in each quarter on the way to recording their first ever win over the Kestrels.

Shooter Jane Altschwager spearheaded Hunter's effort with 42 goals at 84 per cent, while Lara Welham contributed 17 at 77 per cent.
