Viduka ready for Socceroos action

Socceroos striker Mark Viduka has cleared the mental barrier associated with his injury crisis and is ready for a bigger role in Australia's final Confederations Cup match against Tunisia.

Viduka put aside six months of hamstring injury torment with an impressive 45-minute spell in the Socceroos' 4-2 loss to Argentina in Nuremberg at the weekend.

The big striker told coaching staff as he prepared to take the field that he was "shitting himself", hoping his troublesome hamstring would hold together in the hottest cauldron imaginable against arguably the world's best side.

It did, prompting Viduka to say he was ready for as much game time as possible in Wednesday's dead rubber against the African champion, which has also lost both its Confederations Cup group matches.

Every minute on the field is valuable match practice for the Middlesbrough striker, who had played just 10 minutes of football in 2005 prior to the Argentina game.

"I was wondering how I'd react to it but my legs feel fine," Viduka said.

"I'd like to get some (game) time against Tunisia, for sure.

"Before the Argentina game I was warming up and I wasn't quite sure.

"The last time I came on for a game was for Middlesbrough against Crystal Palace in April. I thought I was fine then, but 10 minutes later it went again.

"It's that mental barrier. It was a big relief after the game for me, knowing I got through that 45 minutes feeling good and without any sort of reaction."
