Viduka suffers injury scare

Australia captain Mark Viduka was forced to sit out his team's practice session on Thursday after injuring his leg while warming up.

A team spokesman said Viduka had felt some tightness in his right calf but would be fine for Australia's first Pool F match against Japan on Monday.

The Australians have been plagued by niggling injuries in the lead-up to the tournament and the sight of Viduka limping off at the heavily-guarded Otto-Meister stadium would have been a major concern to the camp.

Viduka had completed just two slow laps of the pitch when he suddenly stopped. The big striker missed the entire two-hour session while a physiotherapist treated the injury and was still limping when he boarded the bus to the team's luxury hotel.

Viduka's injury scare was the only sour note on an otherwise good day for the Australians on the injury front.

Harry Kewell, who has been suffering from a groin strain, and Tim Cahill, who has had a knee problem, both completed the gruelling session after playing in Australia's 3-1 win over Liechtenstein the previous night.

Midfielder Marco Bresciano also resumed training after spending two days in bed with an ear infection.

"I'm actually feeling a lot better, I've still got pain but it's bearable now," Bresciano said.
