Souths would have kept points: Gallop

NRL chief executive David Gallop says South Sydney would not have been docked premiership points for coach Jason Taylor's illegal sideline address had the Rabbitohs beat Cronulla on Monday night.

The league is expected to fine or reprimand the Rabbitohs on Tuesday after Taylor called his players over the sidelines and into a huddle midway through the second half of the 12-10 loss to the Sharks.

A possible penalty for the breach will be discussed at NRL headquarters Tuesday morning.

But Gallop said the offence would not have seen the Bunnies stripped of points had they won their first match of the season.

"It's not allowed under the rules but it's not something that we'll be getting too heavy about," Gallop told Sydney radio 2KY.

"Possibly a small fine, but we'll talk about that this morning.

"It certainly wouldn't have been a situation where there would be a loss of points if they had won the game.

"It's not like the situation where you're getting an advantage of having an extra player on the field."

Cronulla coach Ricky Stuart insisted his club would not have lodged an official complaint to the NRL had Souths won.

"We wouldn't have protested," he told 2KY.

Cronulla joined Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Sydney Roosters at the top of the table with their fourth win of the season, while Souths remain the only club without a win five rounds in to the season.
