Henjak punishes players for slacking off

Coach Ivan Henjak punished his players for their late fade out against the Roosters at the weekend with a demanding training session at Red Hill on Monday.

Brisbane hung on to beat a fast-finishing Roosters 28-24 last Friday night and Henjak gave them a blast in the dressing room after the win.

"The coaching staff were pretty disappointed that we let them back into the game," said centre Steve Michaels after a tough two-hour session in drizzling rain.

"Ivan was pretty angry and we paid the price this morning for letting them back in the game."

"Even when we sung the "team" song after the win it wasn't a good feeling in the dressing room.

"The coach was pretty angry."

Michaels plays on the left side of the field with young rookie winger Antonio Winterstein, who bounced back from a trash talking lesson the previous week - dished out by veteran Wendell Sailor - with two tries against the club which let him go this year.

Michaels and Winterstein are the support cast to Brisbane's right side Hollywood duo Justin Hodges and Israel Folau.

But on Friday night they took the votes with the help of fullback Karmichael Hunt who directed a lot of his attack their way for a change.

"Antonio brings a lot of enthusiasm into the side and Karmichael is coming our side, I'd be happy to run off him all day," said Michaels who has fought back from serious injuries to reclaim a spot in Brisbane's glamour backline.

"Corey Parker says we do the hard work on the left hand side and the glamour boys are on the other side.

"I had a pretty hard road with injuries last year and didn't get a trial so I was glad Ivan gave me a chance."

Michaels revealed he and Winterstein had made a pact to look after he other more after being physical beaten up by the Dragons the previous week.

"We talked, our confidence wasn't down, and we made a pact to look after each other out there a bit more.

"I could have done that a bit more against the Dragons."

Folau and former Panther Joel Clinton both failed to train in the lead up to this week's clash with Penrith because of corks while Ben Teo (ankle) also missed the session.

Meanwhile, the Gold Coast, who find themselves sharing the premiership lead on eight points with Brisbane after beating the Cowboys away, have injury concerns with props Aaron Cannings (dislocated shoulder) and Brad Meyers (A/C joint).

Meyers, who is the more serious of the pair, will have scans on Tuesday and is expected to miss the clash with Canberra at the weekend.

Titan's skipper Scott Prince says the Raiders had their tails up with successive wins.

"We've set the standard with our defence.

"It was rock-solid against the Cowboys and to minimise their point scoring with JT (Johnathan Thurston) and Matty Bowen the coaching staff took their hats off to the boys."

Prince said having Preston Campbell in such wonderful form had made his comeback from a hamstring injury so much easier.

"Presto is enjoying his football. It's a scary thought with Preston being confident.

"But we can't afford to be complacent against the Raiders, they're coming off two good wins and beating Cronulla at Shark Park is not easy to do."
