Fien unwanted by Warriors

New Zealand Test star Nathan Fien has been told by the Warriors to look for another NRL club for next season and beyond.

Warriors chief executive Wayne Scurrah said Fien would not be offered a new contract when his current deal expires at the end of this year.

"It's disappointing for Nathan but he has been told he isn't seen as part of the club's future," Scurrah said.

"We wanted Nathan to know where he stood so he can continue to look at other options, as he has been doing for some time.

"Only recently he turned down an opportunity to sign with Huddersfield in the English Super League so he could stay in the NRL.

"His manager has said a number of NRL clubs are interested and we certainly hope Nathan is able to secure his future with one of them for next season and beyond."

Both St George Illawarra and Parramatta have shown interest in the 29-year-old utility, who is equally at home at halfback, five-eighth or hooker.

Fien's quest to find a new club was dealt a blow on Tuesday when he was dumped from the 19-man squad to play Canberra on Sunday.

Joel Moon, who started the year at five-eighth before being moved into the centres, has replaced Fien in the No.6 jumper.

"We've been concerned about our combination in the halves and needed to look at changes," coach Ivan Cleary said.

"It's a tough call to make but there's room for only one halfback in the line-up.

"We've been really pleased with the way Stacey (Jones) has been going for us at No.7, which meant Nathan had to miss out.

"With Brent (Tate) out for the rest of the season, we've had a look at Joel in the centres but he's a player we're committed to at No.6, so he moves closer in to give us a better-balanced combination."
