Bolton renews contract with Cowboys

North Queensland have re-signed form backrower Scott Bolton until the end of the 2012 NRL season.

Despite making his debut two years ago, the 22-year-old has finally cracked a regular first grade spot in 2009, playing 15 games for the Cowboys.

His form was so good the Cowboys have reluctantly been forced to let barnstorming prop Shane Tronc go when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The Cowboys' priority now is re-signing frontrower Matt Scott, who was named in Queensland's Origin III side on Tuesday.

"The Cowboys see Scott (Bolton) as an important part of our future," North Queensland boss Peter Parr said.

"He is a local junior who has developed through our system over the past few years.

"We are excited by his potential and delighted that he has decided to remain with the club."
